The
Racquet Club Orcas’ goal is to teach the swimmers that through hard work and
commitment to practices and meets, they will reap many rewards in their
swimming skills and speed. The fun comes
from a sense of accomplishment; setting goals and doing the very best that can
be done to achieve those goals. It is
our coaches’ desire to work with your swimmer to acquire these goals not only
as an individual, but as a member of the team.
Skills lessons will be taught to any swimmer interested in perfecting
their strokes and techniques. Details
will follow.
Our
championship meets are the grand finale of the season.
This is where the culmination of a summer’s
worth of hard work gets realized. We
train the swimmers so they may enjoy success at those meets. As a team, we have
had tremendous time drops, individual champions at Classic and have placed
above larger teams in the final standings at City.
Since many of our swimmers are not club
swimmers, this is a direct result of the coaching staff’s efforts. So, we ask
you to please plan as a family to attend the championship meets with your
swimmer. As of this date, the
Championship meet dates are July 17th for Classic and July 24th
for City. Please note these dates are approximate a week ahead of they normal
time. The Park District usually finalizes it schedule and confirms the pool
availability in March, so these date may change, although it is not likely.
As with all summer swim teams,
changes are inevitable. Here are the changes that were made to the ORCA
team during our off season.
COACHING STAFF CHANGES:
NEW HEAD COACH:
Christian Flessner, our 8 and under coach from last
season, was offered the position and enthusiastically accepted it! He has
already met with our coaches, has a theme for the upcoming season and is
working with the staff for an ORCA song and DANCE to start our summer season!!!
The theme and dance will be announced at the Pep Rally. We are very
excited to have him.
Coaches moving on to new opportunities are :
-
Michael Lackos, our
head coach last year, and is
unable to return this season. He has coursework that requires him to
stay on campus during this upcoming summer. While we will miss him,
we wished him good luck with his future plans. As this is being
written, he has a script that is being seriously considered by a few playwrights
in Chicago
-
Austin Katz
was accepted to and received an academic scholarship from
Chapman University
in Orange County
California to major in Physical
Therapy. He is also being considered for a water polo
scholarship! This summer he will be interning at two physical
therapy offices to help him begin his career in the physical therapy
field. We wish him the best of luck! He hopes to fit
lifeguarding at Racquet Club into his very busy schedule this summer; so
be sure to say hello.
-
Connor Hubbard
plans to further his swimming ambitions in college and
is waiting to see what his swimming training schedule would be this summer
before he commits to coaching. However, like
Austin he hopes to be able to lifeguard
at Racquet Club this summer, so again, please be sure to say hello.
-
Ben Broad
will be sadly missed. He has been with the team
for 5 years and was a wonderful asset to our staff.
He has decided to take this summer off
before he begins his college years.
The team
wishes the best for these young people.
It is always wonderful to see our coaches/young adults begin to make
their mark in their careers.
